How did I get to be Meal Planning Mama?
Well…I basically just started calling myself that. 🙂 Honestly, though, Meal Planning Mama has been a several year journey and evolution and I’m beyond psyched to be here. What started as a way for my family and I to gain some sanity during dinnertime hours has evolved into a ‘who would have thought this would be my jam?’ absolute passion of mine for helping other families. It all started with a Facebook group back in 2010 when I was first tasked with having to feed someone besides myself. 🙂 That grew into my diving deep into helping others meal plan and grow their own meal planning businesses through a company called Wildtree, in an effort to be home with my two kiddos–how happy do I look in that picture?!? I quickly realized that helping other mamas make their lives easier was what truly fuels my soul. And, now, I’m creating extensions of all of these ventures to reach out and serve more families, in more ways.
Are there health benefits to eating at home more often? For sure! Will you save time & money if you have a dinnertime plan? Definitely! Honestly, though, at the base of it all, I do this now, all in the name of creating more space for quality family time. In this uber-busy world, we’ve taken measures in our family to cut out the parts that don’t fulfill us, that take too much time away from our time together and don’t allow us time to relax and recharge. And, for me, I’ve found that meal planning like a boss with a hefty side helping of grace, was the simplest place to start.
When I had kids, dinnertime went from being a time of relaxing with a glass of wine to a whirlwind of energy, activity, and sometimes tears. I mean, right from the get go, the Witching Hour IS during the dinnertime hours!! Soooo not right!
For us, and the women I serve, I’ve had to adjust my expectations of dinner to allow some grace. I plan, prep, and cook healthy (most of the time) meals that can be pulled together, usually, in under 30 minutes. That’s the reality of my life, Monday-Thursday, and peppering my weekly meal plan with anything else is a recipe for disappointment. And…mama ain’t got time for that, anyway!
And, just in case you’re wondering if you’re in the right place, here’s what I believe about meal planning:
- It shouldn’t be complicated. If you have a meal planning system in place, the planning portion is SUPER SIMPLE.
- Meal planning is the BEST way to remove the stress of the dinnertime hours. If you have the RIGHT meal planning system for you and your family, the cooking portion of providing dinner will also be SUPER SIMPLE.
- Providing dinner to our family is something we have to do, every day, in one way or another, so let’s make it be as painless (and delicious) as possible. My goal is to help you simplify dinnertime so that you can spend more time enjoying your family. Sound good?
If you read those statements and thought, ‘Ohhhh…a system…that WOULD be helpful’, then you’re in the right place and I’m pretty sure I can help you develop your own Meal Planning system. If you have one that works for you already, and you just want some new ideas, then stick around, I think you’ll find a ton of value, especially in the Meal Making section. Not sure what the issue is with you and mealtime and you want some hand holding? Hang tight. I think we may be able to figure that out, too. Basically, the only folks who should probably head out now are the ones who either 1) have a system that works and don’t want any new ideas or 2) are fully committed to NEVER having dinner at home. Other than that, I’m pretty sure we’ll find something we have in common.
